Winterberg ( with 14,000 inhabitants) is surrounded by a large number of charming villages. There is a town center with many restaurants , bars and cafés and a variety of shops . Winterberg also offers many leisure activities , sports , cultural events , nightlife and has interesting historical details . Winterberg also has its own train station which makes it possible to travel by train from Dortmund to Winterberg.
Winterberg is located in the highest area of Sauerland , fairly central in Germany and from the Netherlands the nearest ski area where you can enjoy skiing, snowboarding , cross country skiing , sledding and ( bob ) sledding . In and near Winterberg are 9 ski areas with 50 km of pistes , 35 of snowy (83 runs and 54 lifts including 11 chairlifts ) . In addition there are 11 hills for going sledging. In order to cross-country skiing is 130 km of tracks available.
In the summer months there is plenty to do , such as walking cycling or mountain biking on the slopes of the Kappe , the Bremberg , the Doll Mountain and the Kahler Asten in Winterberg. Winterberg also include a swimming pool , toboggan run , climbing garden and panoramic bridge experience .
Go shopping can be done at Lidl and Edeka (both in the center ) or Aldi ( on the outskirts of the village , near McDonalds ).
